Seriously, hope you are feeling better. A 6 mile walk is really no joke though. I could not run all summer and really grew to appreciate just going out for a walk. It is about as natural as you can get and one of the best pick-me-ups.

I'm feeling much better, thanks very much. Basically had suspected heart problems. Was pretty scary due to family history and other factors (essential hypertension, high cholesterol etc.). Was even more frustrating due to the fact that I have been doing everything "right" (don't drink, no fried food, exercise, packed in the smokes 20 years ago etc.). Had to run the full gauntlet of tests but have recently been given the all clear. Now trying to get back into work. easing into it for a few weeks before they let me loose on the public. I've always been a big fan of walking and find it to be under rated as an exercise.

Rich

Hey Rich,

Glad you're feeling better. I had a similar scare this past summer. Was working outside and working out at the same time in 100 degree heat and pretty much overdid it. Later on in the evening I was having palpitations and could not catch my breath, so off to the ER. Everything ended up being fine, but it was very scary. Not going to do something stupid like that again...

Michael beat me to it! But I'm knackered from working my knackers off aw well!! lol.. fun word.. Best ones I've heard from that side of the drink are "Getting your knickers in a twist." and "Knocking someone up", which has a COMPLETELY different meaning here!!

What's in your gym Rich? What type of exercises and training will you be doing for the session? Do you lead it?

Lisa,

The only exercises done as such are the warm ups. It is a 2 day class which teaches police officers Officer Protection Skills.

The first day we run through the basics such as open hand, groundwork, batons, handcuffing and incapacitant spray drills.

The second day is concerned with running scenarios and teaching some underpinning techniques.

As well as the officers personal equipment we also use things such as Wavemaster and BOB opponent bags, kick and focus pads and training weapons. For the scenarios, one of us (usually me!) gets dressed up in a padded FIST suit and is used as a violent criminal.

We try to introduce some round robin sessions to get the officers' heart rates up and show them how physical stress can affect some of their motor skills. As some of the officers may not be in the best shape, this has to be treated with some caution!!
There are usually two or three of us teaching and each one of us will take the lead for different lessons. I think I've got batons, spray and handcuffing on Monday.

Regards
Rich

In some of Jeff's training, they made them run and then shoot. Once they incorporated KB's it was a run and snatch and then shoot. :o)

Now there's an idea! We do not carry firearms but I'm pretty sure I could include it with other drills.
