Decided to start logging training-any comments gratefully received! Goals- get back to working with 16Kg and 20kg (Back injury last year put me back to 8 and 12) Currently just trying to be strong enough to press 12kg - can snatch, push press and Turkish getup with this weight, but not simple clean and press.
Last night Warm up 2 sets 10 swings with 8 and 12, 5 reps snatches and cleans with both
Ladders double snatch 8kg. 5,10, 15 reps 5 times. First time I've done this so quite slow.
2 sets hand to hand 12kg

Difficult session with trainer today - we're working on improving my back because I didn't want to stop kettlebelling and I've really learnt to trust his judgement (He's an RKC). He's a bit of a perfectionist but I'd rather that than injury.
Just couldn't get snatch technique right - pulling too much causing back ache and trapped nerve tingles. So back to single 8' and 12's and practise I guess - ho hum...

Went back to first principles - swings and snapping hips today then clean high pull and snatch using a mirror to look for faults. Hmmm struggling to pick out what's wrong. Just know it's not right.
Finished with some squats and step ups with the 12.

Hi Chris,
Regarding your snatch technique, what are you "pulling to much" with? Your back or your arm or shoulder?

Hi Lisa - my arm I think- apparently also throwing out and not bringing bells up close enough. Gave snatches a break today but did some cleans next to a wall and will have a go with snatches this way over the weekend to see if I can improve. Any other suggestions gratefully received

Don't pull with the arm. Pull with your shoulder. The bend in your elbow will come when you pull with the shoulder.
High pull is great to help teach the snatch. I do it all the time.. But the trick is to get the client to pull from the shoulder not the arm. You may have heard all this before and easier said than done. ;o)
Make sure your elbow is high on the pull too. Like starting a lawn mower. Up towards your ear instead of your chest.
Let me know if any of that helps. :o)

Thanks Lisa this is really helpful- I was going to go back to doing high pulls and then a snatch after looking at another post about snatching on this forum because my trainer did start off like this, but hadn't thought about using the shoulder - tend to use upper arm. Will try out on sunday-today and tomorrow are rest days-and let you know how I get on.

Joint mobility and a few swings to warm up
Snatch skill work with 8 and 12. Used high pull and then snatch and tried to use shoulder. Also worked near some hanging mats so could not throw out. Definately felt some improvement. Some of the 8's were weightless- just flew up. Thanks again for advice.
2 sets plank on ball and 1 ordinary plank - what is a super plank?
Ladders - 4 good sets 1 and 2 hand swings with 12kg 5/10/15 swings 5th set not so good but finished Stretch out

Hi Chris,
A super plank is a regular plank staring in the push up position on your hands then moving onto your elbows and back up into the push up position on your hands. (for lack of a better explanation)
